The Rhine is another famous river, it is usually much more associated with Germany than the Danube, since its widest part passes through this country. The Rhine begins its course from Lake Tomesi, which lies in the Swiss Alps. The Rhine ends in the North Sea, near Rotterdam in Holland. In Germany, there are quite large cities on the Rhine, such as Dusseldorf, Cologne and Duisburg. On the territory of Germany, a canal was dug between three rivers: the Rhine, Danube and Main, which played an important role in the country's industrial shipping. The Elbe is no less famous than the Rhine. It originates in the mountains of the Czech Republic in the Karkonosze. The Oder is a large river located on the border of Germany and Poland.
