The rivers flowing through Tyumen and near it are closely connected with the city and the Tobolsk governorship, the capital of which this city was in the 16-17 centuries. So on the symbol of this territorial entity in 1729, a light azure background was captured, in the lower part of which a silvery river with a golden mast on a plank was painted, as a sign that from this city "sailing along the rivers of all Siberia begins."
Tour
The capital of the modern Tyumen region is located on the banks of the Tura River, which is part of the basin of the already larger Irtysh. The length of the Tour is 1030 kilometers, and the area of the basin is 80.4 thousand square kilometers. In addition to the Tyumen region, this river also flows through the Sverdlovsk region. Vessels go along 635 kilometers of Tura from its very mouth, and there are several large and small ports, as well as three reservoirs and the Verkhoturskaya hydroelectric power station.
The latter, by the way, was put into operation in 1951 and was built according to a dam scheme with a pressure front on a blind gravity concrete left bank dam. The maximum average annual output of this river facility is 33 million kWh.
The main tributaries of the Tura are the small rivers Salda, Tagil, Nice, Pyshma, Aktay. It is from this river that the main water intake for the supply of the inhabitants of Tyumen takes place, and also from it the conquest of the Siberian Khanate by Yermak began. Until modern days, the famous Babinovskaya or the so-called Tsar's road has also survived along the Tour. The construction of this path began in 1595 and lasted for about two years by the supreme decree of the tsar. In addition to Tyumen itself, the very first cities of the region, Verkhoturye and Turinsk, were also founded on the banks of Tura.
Tobol
The Tobol belongs to the "Tyumen" rivers, the tributary of which is the Tura. It is more extended - 1591 kilometers, and the basin area is 426 thousand square kilometers. The Tobol flows along the so-called Turgai plateau and originates at an altitude of 272 meters above sea level. Moreover, the river flows not only through the territory of Russia, but also in Kazakhstan.
In the Tobol basin, there are about 20 thousand lakes of various sizes with a total area of 9 thousand square kilometers. In addition to Tyumen, Lisakovsk, Rudny, Kostanay, Kurgan, Yalutorovsk and Tobolsk also belong to the "Tobolsk" cities. The largest tributaries of Tobolsk are Uy, Iset, Tura, Tavda and Ubagan. The navigable length of this river extends to 437 kilometers practically from its very mouth, where Siberian timber is still being rafted.
Along the river, two rather large reservoirs are formed - Verkhnetobolsk and Karatomarskoe. So the second was founded back in 1966 and is used for the needs of energy and irrigation. Its total area is 92 square kilometers, and its volume is 0.586 cubic kilometers with a maximum depth of 16 meters. The largest river in this reservoir is the famous Tobol, known to all residents of Tyumen and the surrounding region.
