Ancient Murom is comfortably located on the left bank of the Oka on the border of the Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regions. Holy Trinity Convent

The relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia are buried here. The story has preserved to this day the legend of the love of the Murom prince and a simple girl who cured him of a serious illness. They had to endure persecution and hardship before this couple stood at the head of the city and earned the love and respect of the residents.

In old age, Peter and Fevronia took monastic vows and bequeathed to be buried together. According to legend, they died at the same time, on July 8, 1228, and the story of their life gave rise to the aphoristic phrase: "We lived happily and died on the same day."

Other holy places of Murom

Opposite the Holy Trinity is another main attraction of the city - the Monastery of the Annunciation. It was founded by Ivan the Terrible after the capture of Kazan in 1552, at the burial place of Prince Constantine and his family, also canonized for the spread of Christianity in the Murom land.

At the intersection of the main streets of the city is the Murom Church of the Ascension of the Lord. This temple, founded in the 16th century, in the post-revolutionary period was half dismantled and rebuilt as a school. Only in the last two decades, the restoration work carried out has allowed the church to return to its former appearance.

The Red Church of the Exaltation was rebuilt a few years ago on the site where a convent was located in the 12th century. Several centuries later, a church was erected here, which existed until the Soviet period.

At all times, the Red Church of the Exaltation enjoyed special attention of the Moscow tsars, who exempted the parish from many state duties.

The ancient city was glorified by another epic character - Ilya Muromets. Not everyone knows that this is a real historical hero who fought for Russia and the Orthodox faith. For his exploits, he was canonized by the church. His relics are kept in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, but a part of them was transported to Murom, you can worship the shrine in the Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery.

In the city park, a monument to the hero of epics and legends Ilya Muromets is erected in a symbolic place on the Oka embankment - exactly where the border of the Russian land passed in ancient times.

In Murom, the life of St. Juliana of Lazarevskaya, who is also considered the patroness of the family, passed through. She and her husband lived happily in love and harmony, gave birth to many children. All thoughts and actions of Juliana were devoted to works of mercy, helping widows and orphans. You can worship this saint in the Murom Nikolo-Embankment Church, located on the banks of the Oka River.
