Upcoming flight? What are you planning to do on the plane? If this is a business trip - perhaps you want to prepare and work on the way? Or, while planning a vacation, watch documentaries about the place you are going to, or just while away the time with your favorite comedy. A laptop in such situations will not be superfluous, the only question is, is it possible to carry it on board the plane?
Carry-on baggage allowance
Maximum dimensions may vary depending on the airline you are flying with. You can take the very minimum of things with you on Pobeda flights - there is a threshold of 36x30x27 cm, but you will not have weight restrictions. In other companies, the difference is small - as a rule, the size is approximately 55x40x20 cm, weight is from 5 to 10 kg (check on the website of your airline before the flight). Currently, the laptop has been excluded from the list of things that can be carried in excess of the allowable allowance, but if it fits into the allowable dimensions of carry-on luggage, then you can take it with you.
How do I transport my laptop on an airplane?
Most airlines not only allow but recommend carrying your laptop in your carry-on baggage. Of course, you can check it in as baggage, but without a corresponding note that the baggage is fragile, the staff cannot guarantee you the safety of the equipment (although with this mark you will be asked to sign the corresponding document that you waive claims against the airline in case of damage to property) when loading luggage and flying. Therefore, for your peace of mind and comfort - you can carry it with you. This will not cause any comments from the onboard staff if you warn them that you are going to use the computer and follow the rules for operating equipment on board:
• It is not recommended to place equipment on the carry-on luggage rack, as other things may fall on them during turbulence;
• It is necessary to transport the laptop in a case / bag;
• During the search, you need to take the laptop out of the bag and place it in a special container. In this case, all components (mouse, wire, etc.) are inspected separately from the case;
• Due to the tightening of security controls at airports, you may be asked to turn on your computer during security, so make sure it is charged in advance;
• When using a laptop, do not place it on a folding table, but keep it on your lap if you are not sure that the table is designed for the weight of the computer and will support it;
• During takeoff and landing, as well as during turbulence, you need to turn off the laptop and put it under the seat, or in the front seat pocket. The first is done so that the signal does not interfere with the onboard communication, the second is so that during sharp maneuvers the computer does not fall out of your hands on the floor or your neighbor.
Also keep in mind that if you are transporting new or expensive equipment, you may be asked to file a tax return.
Subject to the above rules, and also provided that the weight and size of the laptop fits into the allowable dimensions of hand luggage set by your airline, you can take a laptop with you on board and use it.
