Planning your vacation and getting ready for the trip are pleasant chores. However, they can turn nasty right at the airport baggage counter. In order not to overpay for baggage and not to repackage suitcases in plain sight, it is worth remembering the rules and regulations for free baggage transportation on board the aircraft.
We hand over to the cargo hold
Baggage allowance may vary from airline to airline. It is necessary to clarify in advance at the office or on the airline's website how much cargo can be taken on board. However, there are general regulations that apply to both domestic and international flights.
Every adult flying in economy class can check in 20 kg of cargo into the hold of the aircraft free of charge. In general, his luggage should not exceed 30 kg. For a child under 2 years old, you can check in baggage weighing no more than 10 kg. A child between the ages of 2 and 12 has the right to carry the same amount of baggage as an adult.
Business class passengers can carry up to 30 kg of baggage free of charge, while traveling in first class - up to 40 kg.
If the family is traveling together, the weight of each family member's luggage is calculated separately. It is necessary to distribute the total luggage in the suitcases in advance so that each of them weighs no more than 20 kg.
If the weight of the baggage exceeds the free 20 kg, but fits into the permitted 30 kg, then each extra kilogram will need to be paid according to the airline's fares. But if one piece weighs more than the permitted 30 kg, then you will have to pay for the entire suitcase in full.
This baggage is called checked baggage, since a baggage ticket with an individual number is attached to each suitcase or bag. The detachable part of the coupon remains with the passenger so that he can receive his baggage at the destination using the number. If the baggage is lost through the fault of the airline, then they will also be looking for it by the number of the tear-off coupon.
We take with us to the salon
Items that the passenger does not check in are unchecked baggage and are called carry-on baggage. At the check-in counter, such baggage will also be weighed, except for the things the passenger needs before, during and after the flight.
Such things include: handbags, briefcases, folders for documents, outerwear and suits in a case, umbrellas, walking sticks, crutches, wheelchairs and baby strollers, as well as equipment - laptops, cameras, camcorders, cell phones.
The passenger must take care of the safety of his carry-on baggage himself, as the airline is not responsible for unchecked baggage.
The weight of carry-on baggage per passenger should not exceed 5 kg, and the sum of the dimensions of the three dimensions should not exceed 115 cm. A corresponding tag is issued for each piece of carry-on baggage, and the weight is recorded in the baggage receipt.
Special baggage
If a passenger wishes to carry very heavy or bulky baggage in the hold, he must notify the airline representatives in advance and pay for the carriage according to the fare.
Baggage that requires special care during transportation - fragile items, instruments, musical instruments, the passenger can carry in the cabin of the aircraft. The weight of such baggage should not exceed 75 kg, in addition, you will have to buy a separate seat for it at an adult rate.
