The feelings that a passenger experiences at the airport when asked to show the contents of their carry-on luggage are akin to the experiences of drivers who are stopped by the traffic police. You immediately feel guilty of breaking some rules and expect the immediate removal of your favorite lipstick or the ill-fated tube of toothpaste. There are indeed some requirements for carry-on luggage. In order not to overshadow your trip, check if your luggage matches them.

Carry-on baggage dimensions

The dimensions of carry-on baggage have a single standard, but in rare cases they may depend on the rules of the air carrier. Most airlines allow baggage no more than 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm. If you do not know the exact parameters of your carry-on baggage, you can check them using specially designed molds at the check-in and border control counters. Suitably sized luggage must fit freely in them.

The maximum carry-on baggage weight can vary from 6 to 12 kg. In addition, the passenger has the right to take along additional outerwear, a laptop, a handbag, an umbrella, a bag from a duty free store, necessary medical equipment and a baby stroller. Regardless, please try to keep the minimum amount of carry-on items as the airline reserves the right to charge additional items of carry-on baggage.

Airlines have the right to impose additional restrictions on carry-on baggage. Be sure to check their requirements in advance to avoid unpleasant situations when crossing the border.

What can I carry in my carry-on baggage?

First of all, you need to remember which items you definitely cannot put in baggage for transportation on the plane. The main ones are:

- objects of weapons and other sharp and blunt objects, with the help of which you can inflict injury;

- drinks and other liquids, the volume of which exceeds 100 ml;

- chemical products, in particular, explosive and toxic substances.

The discovery of a suspicious item can entail not only the need to transfer them to the luggage compartment, but also much more serious legal problems.

However, don't worry if you need to take something really important with you on the plane. As an exception, you can put in your baggage:

- liquids and cosmetics in containers not exceeding 100 ml;

- medicines with a doctor's certificate;

- baby food.

In order to avoid controversial situations in the control zone, it is better to transport all liquids in containers (no more than 10 pieces) with an indication of their volume and store them in one transparent bag or cosmetic bag.

When going on a trip, remember that the list of prohibited and allowed items for transportation in hand luggage may depend not only on the airline, but also on the country to which the flight is carried out. Therefore, it is recommended to clarify this information in advance.
