Traveling to Europe by car is an exciting adventure that will allow you to truly get to know different countries from the inside. This is not to say that it is very easy to organize such a trip, but still it is quite realistic. A few tips will help you avoid common mistakes.

Step 1
The first step is to plan your travel itinerary. Choose settlements, roughly see which roads you will take and how long it will take. Then you need to record the results, book hotels along the route and apply for a visa. You don't have to book hotels, but stay in camping areas: it will be much cheaper and, if you are traveling by car, it may be more convenient. To obtain a visa, you will also need to provide documents for the car (registration certificate and insurance - the so-called Green Card) and your international driver's license (sometimes you can get by with a Russian license).
Step 2
Most of the roads in Europe are autobahns, and the conditions for their use are different in each country. Free roads in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Belgium. In other countries, you will have to pay for travel in various ways, for example, in France, you need to give money at checkpoints - peages, and in the Czech Republic and a number of other countries, buy a special sticker on the windshield, which is valid for a week. It is best to find out what conditions of travel apply in your chosen countries in advance, otherwise there is a risk of getting a fine unknowingly. Vehicle movements are monitored by surveillance cameras that are available throughout Europe.
Step 3
Familiarize yourself with the rules of the road and be careful when observing them. In Europe, they are not more complicated than in Russia, but the amounts of fines are significantly higher than those to which Russian drivers are accustomed. Also check if your machine meets the requirements of another country. For example, tinted front windows may well become a reason for denying entry. Difficulties can also arise if you have studded tires or tires out of season.
Step 4
Leaving Russia, fill up a full tank of gas, as in Europe it will cost you much more. However, there are countries where fuel is cheaper, for example, Hungary is slightly cheaper than Austria, which, in turn, is cheaper than Germany. The cheapest gasoline in Bulgaria, the most expensive in Norway.
Step 5
When crossing the border, you must fill out a customs declaration in duplicate. You keep one for yourself, the second you give to the customs officers. The vehicle is indicated in the declaration. Without this paper, you, in fact, have no proof that you bought the car long before the trip, so take care of it. When crossing borders, a person must be driving in whose name the declaration is filled out.
