A visa is a document that allows you to enter the territory of a particular country. In some cases, its presence allows you to travel to a number of states, such as in the European Union. But more often than not, permission is issued only to visit one country at a predetermined date.

Step 1
The visa is issued by the embassy of the country where you are traveling. First, find out if you exactly need an entry permit. In some countries, for example, to Turkey, the citizens of the Russian Federation do not need a visa. Read carefully all the requirements and rules for obtaining an entry permit, which are usually posted on the official website of the embassy.

Check the list of documents required to obtain a visa. You can find it out at the visa center of the country, the embassy or on the embassy website. Their list depends on the requirements of a particular state, type of visa and travel conditions. In any case, you will need a passport, photographs and a document confirming your financial condition. Often, reservations for round-trip tickets and hotels are also required to prove the purpose of the trip and the fact of return.
Step 3
Collect all documents. It is advisable to do this in advance, since in some countries the waiting period for a visa may take several weeks. And for a visa to the UK, for example, all documents will have to be translated into English, which will also take some time.
Step 4
Make an appointment to apply for a visa. This can be done by phone or on the official website. In most embassies, you yourself can choose the time and date convenient for you, if they are not yet busy.
Step 5
Fill out the application form. Its form can be downloaded from the official website or taken from the visa center of the country. Be especially careful when filling it out, as any inaccuracy or typing error may become a reason for a visa refusal.
Step 6
Come to the embassy on the appointed day, taking with you the application and all the necessary documents. If necessary, hand over your biometric data (fingerprints, photographs), pay the consular fee and go through an interview. If your documents are arranged by the embassy staff, after a while you return your passport with a visa stamped in it.
