Step 1
Let's start with the actual to-do list. Everything you need to do, everything you have been asked to do, everything you need to take with you, list it on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet so as not to lose it. Add to the list as soon as something is remembered or a new case appears. Cross out what has been done, underline urgent tasks in red.
Step 2
Create two folders for documents - one for those that need to be kept close at hand (passports, tickets), and the second for those that will be useful upon arrival, for example, medical records and school certificates of children. Go around the medical and educational organizations to which you are related to pick up all your documents and officially unfasten. In schools of children, take a certificate of what subjects they studied and in which class they were transferred. These certificates can be useful when placing children in foreign schools.
Step 3
Take all the essentials and pack them in a suitcase: a couple of sets of clothes, personal hygiene items and a book in case you get bored on the road. The most difficult thing is to choose only what you need and part with everything else. You can leave some of the things to friends or family, which you will then pick up on your next visit to your homeland. Or ask them to send these things to you by parcel, when you know exactly your address of residence. All photos, letters, etc. can be scanned. Duplicate the information on several media - an external hard drive, laptop memory, etc. Take pictures of things that are dear as a memory. Sell or donate what is not so expensive. Many will be happy to pick up your things, you just have to post an ad on the visited forum of your city.
Step 4
Distribute all debts, complete all cases, say goodbye to family and friends. Be sure to tell them how to contact you, exchange email addresses, etc.
Step 5
Try not to panic. Arrange to be met at a new place and taken to the doorstep of your apartment or hotel. Don't forget the phrasebooks for talking to the locals. Good luck!
