Thailand (translated as "the country of Thais") is a state in Southeast Asia that borders Laos, Mnyama, Malaysia and Cambodia. The territory of Thailand is strongly stretched from north to south and is partially covered with mountains, so there are a variety of natural areas and many very beautiful landscapes.
Political structure and history of Thailand
Thailand is located in the subequatorial belt. With its warm climate and many beautiful sandy beaches, it is very popular with many foreign tourists. Every year there are more and more Russian citizens among them.
Thailand is a constitutional monarchy. The head of state is the king, who is considered the protector of all citizens of the country and all professed religions. He enjoys great authority and can act as the supreme arbiter in political crises that occur regularly in this country. Most Thais treat the king and members of his family with love and sincere respect, often reaching the level of religious reverence. Foreign visitors should be aware that in Thailand, public disrespect for the king, even for his portrait, can be fined a large sum or even imprisoned.
Thais are very proud that their country is the only one in Southeast Asia that has never been a colony. The first state on the territory of present-day Thailand was formed at the beginning of the XIII century. And at the end of the 18th century, the founder of the current dynasty, Rama I, ascended the throne. Under his successors, the final borders of the state were formed.
Economy and tourism in Thailand
Due to its geographical location and climate, Thailand is one of the largest producers of natural rubber, rice and fruits. The so-called "jasmine rice", which has a characteristic delicate aroma, is especially famous.
Tourism is a very important part of the Thai economy. Beach lovers are familiar with the names of the main tourist areas of this country - Pattaya and Phuket. Many guests come to the beautiful Phi Phi Island. Moreover, the riots, which, as already mentioned, very often occur in Thailand, almost never affect the resorts. During quiet periods, foreign guests also visit the capital of the country, Bangkok, where there are many beautiful sights.
On December 26, 2004, a terrible disaster struck the country: huge tsunami waves hit the coast, caused by a strong underwater earthquake. Tens of thousands of people died, including foreign tourists. But now the destroyed infrastructure has been fully restored, and a tsunami early warning system is in operation. Therefore, the number of foreign visitors to this distant exotic country is still very large.
