Geographical position

The country where Grozny is located is the Russian Federation, or, to be more precise, the North Caucasian Republic of Chechnya, which is part of the Russian Federation. The city, which was previously called the village of Groznaya, stretches on the banks of the Sunzha River, which flows through the southern territories of Russia and is a tributary of the more full-flowing Terek.

The city is located in a temperate continental zone with rather mild and warm winters, as well as long and hot summers. But, for example, unlike the mountainous settlements of the Krasnodar Territory, Grozny is not protected from blowing winds, which is why the winter temperature on its territory can drop to minus 20 ° C. The summer heat is often intensified by the prolonged lack of precipitation, which is also characteristic of the area.

Located near the Caucasus Mountains, the capital city of Chechnya is also territorially divided into four districts - Zavodskoy, Leninsky, Oktyabrsky and Staropromyslovsky. Moreover, each of them, in turn, is further divided into five additional territorial-administrative districts (or TAO for short). There are 20 such TAOs in Grozny.

A little about the modern Chechen capital

A fifth of the total population of the republic is concentrated in Grozny - about 21%. Therefore, it is not surprising that this city is also the center of the cultural life of the entire region. So in Grozny there are the largest universities in Chechnya - the Chechen State University, the Grozny State Oil Technical University named after V. I. Academician M. D. Millionshchikova and the Chechen State Pedagogical Institute. As well as the Grozny Russian Drama Theater. M. Yu., Lermontov, Chechen State Drama Theater. Nuradilov, the State Symphony Orchestra of the Chechen Republic, the Chechen State Philharmonic Society, the National Library of the Chechen Republic and the National Museum of Chechnya are based in Grozny.

Memorable for residents of the city, as well as interesting for tourists who came to the city, the following sights of Grozny are the Memorial to the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War, an impressive monument to Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov, an interesting Monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, Monument to Grozny women, Monument to mothers, Sculpture to Grozny firemen and many others. Residents of Grozny are proud of their city, which has been rebuilt literally from ruins over the past few decades.
