Camping shovel, container for collecting water, thin and transparent plastic film (oilcloth), long elastic tube, sinker

Instructions

Step 1

It is certainly not easy to find water in the desert, but it is possible. First, it can be obtained from plants such as cacti. Secondly, there are artificially dug wells in the desert where water is stored. You can find such a well if you walk along the caravan roads, but if you still have not managed to find a source of water, do not despair! There are two correct ways to obtain water "straight from the sand", which have repeatedly saved the lives of travelers dying of thirst.

Step 2

In order to get water using the first method, go between the dunes and choose the lowest place. The lower you start digging, the less distance you have to travel before you get to wet sand, which takes moisture from the groundwater. However, be prepared for the fact that digging will still take a long time - one to two meters deep - wet sand is easy to identify - it is gray and wet to the touch. Dig a shallow hole in it, and groundwater will gradually begin to accumulate in it.

Step 3

The second way to extract water in the desert is to dig a hole in the sand about a meter in diameter and at least fifty to sixty centimeters deep. At the very bottom of the pit, place a container for collecting water and place the end of the hollow tube in it, pull the other end out of the pit, cover the resulting pit with transparent plastic wrap and place a sinker in the center. As a sinker, you can use an ordinary stone. Under the influence of sunlight passing through the transparent film, moisture will evaporate from the soil and settle on the inner surface of the oilcloth. The water droplets will gradually drain into the container, and you can quench your thirst from time to time. In this way, you can get at least a liter of water per day - this amount should be enough to prevent dehydration.
