Many tourists and history buffs are familiar with photographs that show the long-rotted roofs of buildings, barely sticking out above the water surface. This is another Atlantis - the beautiful city of Mologa, flooded by the forces of the Bolsheviks.
History
The city appeared in the 14th century, and it was located at the confluence of two rivers - the Mologa and the Volga. The city developed and became more and more, and fishery and trade contributed to prosperity. For many years, the city of Mologa was one of the main trade centers in the Upper Volga region.
Why did the city sink under water?
The Soviet authorities announced this decision in 1935. Initially, there was a plan to relocate all residents and houses until 1937, but this is not possible. However, people were still resettled (this happened from 1937 to 1941).
And so it happened that the city, which was able to survive the Great Patriotic War and three revolutions, was destined to be flooded in the dark 1930s. Now every year the former residents of the city and their children go to the city in order to worship the homeland of their ancestors. This happens on the second Saturday of August. What tourists could see
The most important thing worth noting is what could exist today in the city of Mologa and what tourists could enjoy if it had not been flooded:
- Afanasyevsky Monastery, which was built in the 16th century.
- The Resurrection Cathedral, built in the 18th century (during its construction, the Naryshkin Baroque style was used).

From time to time, the level of the water surface drops, and at such moments tourists have unique views of the roofs of houses, buildings, as well as foundations. At the same time, you will not be able to get to the city on your own - you need to arrange an excursion with one or more captains. Many captains provide their boat and petrol for the whole day. Renting a boat will cost 3000 rubles. It is important that this is an official tourist visit to the city - as independent actions are possible a fine or more serious penalties.
