Many people associate Morocco with ancient history, delicious cuisine, beautiful beaches, colorful oriental bazaars and snow-white houses. Excursions and relaxation on the beach are all that, it would seem, you can do in Morocco. But this is a delusion. Morocco also attracts surfers of all skill levels. There are calm waves for beginners and waves that challenge experienced professionals.
Morocco is washed by the Atlantic Ocean from the west and the Mediterranean Sea from the north. For surfing, the best option is the Atlantic coast. Beginners are encouraged to come in the summer to practice on low waves, while experienced athletes in search of big waves come to Morocco between October and April.
Of course, you can surf in other countries, but Morocco wins with lower prices, spots of any level, fewer athletes, which makes it possible to enjoy the beaches alone.
Surfing is possible in several Moroccan cities. The most popular are Agadir, Essaouira, Validia and Dakhla.
Agadir is characterized by warm weather, always large waves on beaches over 15 kilometers long. The infrastructure is ideal for surfing, so various surf tournaments are constantly held here.
Essaouira is famous for its mild climate and due to the lack of a huge number of tourists it attracts surfers to its shores. The beach is about six kilometers long with big waves and constant winds, boasting almost 20 spots and international competitions.
Validia is a city of surfers of all levels. The only drawback is that the ocean here is quite cold and wayward, which may not be suitable for beginners, but it attracts professionals like a magnet.
Dakhla is the dream of kitesurfers. A wide sandy spit separates the beautiful lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. You can practice your favorite sport here almost all year round. For lovers of kitesurfing, there are kite stations where you can live, and beginners can additionally learn to master the art of kitesurfing. The highlight of Dakhla is dolphins and graceful pink flamingos.
Morocco is ready to open its arms not only for professionals, but also for those who learn to surf from scratch. There are a huge number of schools here. You can find them already on the spot, or you can prepare in advance for the trip by choosing the school you like the most, which, as a rule, offers not only training, but also accommodation with meals, and a meeting at the airport. There is also the equipment necessary for classes in schools.
For those who can't live without surfing, Morocco offers its coasts and waves, competing with Southeast Asia and other regions touted in the surfing world.
