Italy attracts many tourists with its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. To stay on the territory of this state, citizens of the Russian Federation need a visa. In accordance with Italian law and depending on the purpose of their stay, they can apply for one of four types of visas.

Step 1
For passengers in transit through Italy, a transit or airport visa (type A) is provided. Its coverage area is limited to the airport transit area. If you repeatedly cross the borders of Italy, you must obtain a type B transit visa. You can also follow it through Italy 2 or more times, while staying in the country for no more than 5 days.
Step 2
The most popular visa is type C. It can be either single entry or multiple entry - with a stay of no more than three months.
Step 3
If the stay exceeds 3 months, you should take care of obtaining a type D visa. It is not Schengen, but gives the right to travel through the Schengen countries when traveling to Italy. The transit time is limited to 5 days.
Step 4
There are 2 more categories of visas, but with the right to enter the Schengen zone - single entry and multivisa. The grounds for entering Italy can be an invitation, an escort, a diplomatic visit, business, work, tourism, etc. As a member of the Schengen Agreement, Italy also issues Schengen visas.
Step 5
A visa is issued on the basis of a personal appeal to the Italian diplomatic mission in Russia with the obligatory provision of a passport valid for at least three and a half months at the time of the expected end of the trip.
Step 6
The documents for obtaining a visa should be submitted no earlier than a month before the trip, since the certificates required to obtain a permit to travel abroad are valid only for one month.
Apply for a visa at the consular district of the Consulate General of Italy in St. Petersburg if you live in this city or in the Leningrad region, in Pskov or Pskov region, Murmansk or Murmansk region, Republic of Karelia, in Vologda or Vologda region, Arkhangelsk or Arkhangelsk region. If you live in any other region of the Russian Federation, apply for a visa at the Italian Embassy in Moscow.
Step 7
Visas are issued by the consular section of the Italian Embassy, the Italian Visa Center in Moscow, and the Consulate General of Italy in St. Petersburg. Consideration of an application for a visa can take from 4 days to three months. In some cases, a visa can be issued earlier than four days.
Step 8
Be prepared for the fact that a call may come from the Consulate of Italy in order to double-check the information specified in the documents submitted for the visa application. Therefore, the traveler and his relatives (in case they find themselves on the phone in the absence of the departing one) must clearly know the destination, the length of stay in Italy, the names of those who are going on a trip with him.
