Instructions
Step 1
Decide for what purpose you want to get an American visa. There are 24 types of visa. If you do not plan to obtain US citizenship, apply for one of the nonimmigrant visas. If you are flying to America for work, you should apply for a work visa. A visitor visa is issued to those who have relatives living in the country of entry.
Step 2
Pay the US $ 140 consular fee using one of the following methods: by bank card, at a bank branch or through a post office. It should be noted that the fee is not refundable if the embassy refused to issue a visa. Payment is made in rubles.
Step 3
Fill out a special form DS-160 on the website (https://ceac.state.gov/genniv), where you need to specify the necessary information about yourself and upload a photo. All answers are written in English. After confirming the data you entered, the barcode number will appear on the screen. Print it out and save. You will need the barcode when you go to the embassy to schedule your interview.
Step 4
Register at https://portal.ustraveldocs.com. To schedule an interview, you will need to enter the numbers of three documents: a foreign passport, a receipt for payment of the consular fee and a barcode from the confirmation page of the DS-160 form. After that, you will be assigned the date and time of the interview.
Step 5
Prepare all the documents you need to bring to your interview. You will need: a foreign passport, one 5 x 5 cm photograph, a printout of the invitation for an interview, a page with the application number DS-160. If you still have old foreign passports, you will also need to take them with you.
Step 6
Take supporting documents for an interview: a certificate of income, a certificate of marriage registration, etc. Give these papers to the embassy workers. The US Immigration and Citizenship Act obliges them to treat you as a potential immigrant.
Step 7
Get an interview at the U. S. Embassy. If the decision to issue a visa is positive, you will be given it in your passport.
