Since there is a visa-free regime for Russians, there is no need to issue any visas and permits to cross the border with Abkhazia. To do this, you only need a civilian or foreign passport. Naturally, it should not be overdue. Since you will go through customs and passport control at the border not only from the Abkhaz side, but also from the Russian side, make sure in advance that you are not prohibited from traveling outside the Russian Federation - you have no debts and no enforcement proceedings have been filed against you. Children under the age of 14 will need a birth certificate that contains a mark of citizenship. Teenagers from 14 to 18 years old cross the border with a birth certificate and a civil passport. All persons under 18 years of age can enter Abkhazia only in the presence of their parents or having in their hands a notarized permission from the parents to do so.

If you cross the border by car or bus, you should approach the Psou customs terminal. The driver and luggage remain in the car, while passengers with documents are sent to the customs and passport control point. After the new terminal was opened in 2012, the time for passing through security has been significantly reduced, and now, even at the height of the season, you will not have to spend more than 30 minutes. After checking the documents, passengers can again get into the car and go to their destination. The driver will fill out a customs declaration at this time, the car and its trunk will be inspected. When leaving the terminal from the side of Abkhazia, he will need to pay a one-time insurance fee and put the vehicle on temporary registration with the Abkhaz traffic police.

Those tourists who go to Abkhazia by rail or river transport do not even have to get up when crossing the border - the inspection will be carried out directly in the carriage or on the deck.
Step 4
Tourists who decide to cross the border on foot should head towards the bridge over the Psou River. On the Russian side, documents and luggage will be checked by the border guards of the Adler checkpoint, after which the customs officers of Abkhazia will carry out the check. And, although in this case, you will have to walk about 700 m, this way of crossing the border has its own advantage - a real duty-free shop, Duty free, which is open from 10:00 to 21:00. Here you can buy perfumes, chocolates and chocolates, imported alcohol. After passing through security, you can take a bus or a minibus to get to the locality you need.
