Railway connection with Makhachkala
The capital of Dagestan can be reached both by long-distance trains and by suburban electric trains. Electric trains leave for Makhachkala from many parts of the republic - Derbent, Khasavyurt. Regular long-distance trains arrive from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Baku, Kharkov, Tyumen. The city has two railway stations - "Makhachkala" and "Makhachkala I sorting".

There are two bus stations in the city - Glavny (Northern bus station) and Prigorodny (South bus station). Therefore, if you have no desire to get to the capital of Dagestan by rail, you can use the bus service. Route transport goes to Makhachkala both from the suburbs and from distant cities. The capital of Dagestan has a direct connection with Kislovodsk, Yessentuki, Derbent, Maykop, Cherkessk, Baku and Sochi. Buses from nearby settlements arrive at the South Bus Station.

Three highways pass through the city - М29, Р275 and Р215. The first one runs through almost the entire territory of the North Caucasus - from the southern part of Dagestan to the Krasnodar Territory. After the border with Azerbaijan, the highway connects with M1 and leads to Baku. Р275 goes to the capital of the republic from the Caucasus Mountains, from the southern part of Dagestan. On the P215 highway, you can get to Makhachkala from the territory of the Republic of Kalmykia.
