There are several travel options from Tenerife to the small picturesque island of La Gomera. Each has its own disadvantages and advantages.
When visiting new countries, any traveler hopes to see as many places and attractions as possible. The Canary Islands are no exception. They consist of an archipelago that includes seven large and several small islands. The largest of them is Tenerife, the island that attracts the largest flow of tourists. La Gomera is a small island 30 km from Tenerife. On the island, the tourist infrastructure is very poorly developed, but people go there for the atmosphere: untouched nature, beaches with black sand, provincial simplicity.
You can get to La Gomera in two ways: with an excursion group or on your own by ferry. Let's take a closer look at each of them.
Group excursion to La Gomera island
The easiest way to get to La Gomera from Tenerife is to buy an organized group tour from a travel agency. For example, for Russian tourists who do not speak foreign languages, the Russian-language agency "Tenerife in Russian" operates on the island of Tenerife.
Benefits of an organized excursion:
1) fully organized and thoughtful route, including sightseeing of the main attractions of the island;
2) you will be picked up from the hotel in the morning and brought there after the end of the excursion;
3) the excursion includes the work of a professional guide who will introduce you to the island, as well as tell you other valuable and useful information.
Disadvantages:
1) there is no possibility of independent inspection of the island;
2) cost.
Self-drive to La Gomera Island by ferry
Ferries of two transport companies - Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas run daily between the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera. The journey takes about an hour. Ships leave from the port of Los Cristianos, which is located in the south of Tenerife, and arrive in the capital of La Gomera - the municipality of San Sebastian. Round-trip tickets cost approximately EUR 65-70. The ticket can be purchased both at the port and online. When purchasing a ticket online, you must exchange it for a boarding pass at the port (be sure to present your passport).
Both transport companies provide their tourists with transfers from Tenerife North Airport and the main bus station in Santa Cruz to the port of Los Cristianos.
Benefits of an independent trip:
1) the possibility of leisurely sightseeing of the city;
2) unlimited time (the main thing is to catch the last ferry).
Disadvantages:
1) independently planning your pastime;
2) lack of a guide.
Which way to choose depends only on your desire, mood and capabilities: for active tourists, an independent trip to the island of La Gomera is more suitable, for tourists with children, elderly people - an organized excursion. In any case, the trip will bring a lot of positive emotions and leave an indelible impression for many years.
