Before giving birth, the expectant mother may plan to fly on vacation or to her parents, and, possibly, go on a business trip. However, flying by plane during some periods of pregnancy can be dangerous.
Instructions
Step 1
The first trimester is the most unfavorable time for flights. Pressure drops during takeoff and landing can lead to hypertonicity of the uterus, and in rare cases, provoke a miscarriage. Often at the beginning of pregnancy, women are tormented by toxicosis and headaches, the expectant mother has a breakdown and increased drowsiness. Flying can exacerbate these unpleasant conditions, and the time spent on the plane can be a real torture. Therefore, doctors usually advise refraining from flying in the early stages of pregnancy.
Step 2
With the onset of the second trimester, the woman's body gets used to its new state, toxicosis, as a rule, recedes. The belly is still small and my mother is doing well in general. Doctors recommend all necessary flights to be made during this period, i.e. from 13 to 27 weeks of pregnancy. If you are going on vacation, try to choose a country with a mild climate, a high level of medicine and located 3-4 hours from your place of residence by plane. Then, with a high degree of probability, you will not encounter any problems during flights.
Step 3
Most airlines allow flights up to 36 weeks pregnant. However, you should check your carrier's rules in advance. A number of airlines require a certificate of the health of the expectant mother, starting from a period of 28 weeks, and some carriers do not take pregnant women on board, even if the flight is allowed by a lying doctor.
Step 4
In the third trimester, women often have high blood pressure, some suffer from edema or toxicosis of late terms. If you have one of these conditions, it is better to refuse the flight. It is often stuffy inside the plane. This brings not only discomfort to the mother, but can also lead to oxygen starvation of the fetus. Pressure drops, shaking during flight or sudden braking during landing can worsen the condition of the mother and child, and in rare cases can provoke premature birth.
Step 5
Before planning an airplane flight while pregnant, you should consult with your gynecologist. Based on your health and fetal development, your doctor may recommend postponing your trip for a few months or canceling it before delivery. The gynecologist may also prescribe medications for you to take before and during your plane flight to minimize the potential risk to you and your baby.
