Khanty-Mansiysk is the administrative capital of the Autonomous Okrug of the same name, which is one of the leading centers of Russian industry. Now about 90 thousand people live in this city, and the number of the local population is increasing every year.

Step 1
The easiest way to get to Khanty-Mansiysk, which is sometimes called the capital of Ugra, is by plane. There is an airport within the city, which in 2004 received an international status; flights from Moscow (Vnukovo, Domodedovo), St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Yekaterinburg, Omsk and other cities of Russia operate here. Flights from Voronezh, Anapa and Sochi are organized in summer. The flight from Moscow to Khanty-Mansiysk will take a traveler about three and a half hours.

There is also a bus station in the capital of Ugra, serving intercity and regional routes. Khanty-Mansiysk has a direct bus connection with Omsk (1 flight daily) and Surgut (5 flights daily). Travel time from Surgut to Khanty-Mansiysk by bus is about 5.5 hours. There is also a bus station in the city, serving only flights from Nizhnevartovsk to Khanty-Mansiysk, following through Megion. Travel time on this route is 10 hours. Thus, from Moscow, you must first get to Omsk, Surgut or Nizhnevartovsk, and then change to a bus to Khanty-Mansiysk.
Step 3
There is no railway connection in Khanty-Mansiysk. The nearest passenger station is Pyt-Yakh, which is part of the Sverdlovsk railway. From Moscow you can get to it by train number 109 "Moscow - Novy Urengoy", the traveler will have to spend 38-40 hours on the road. Also, this station has a direct railway connection with Novosibirsk, Kazan, Volgograd and other cities of Russia. In Pyt-Yakh, a tourist will need to change to an intercity bus to Khanty-Mansiysk, the road to the capital of Ugra will take about 4-4.5 hours.

Owners of their own vehicles can use them to get to the capital of Ugra, using the P404 Tyumen-Khanty-Mansiysk highway. So, when traveling from Moscow, you can use the European highway E22, which begins in the city of Holyhead (Great Britain), and ends in the city of Ishim (Tyumen region). Having reached Tyumen, the tourist will be able to turn onto P404 and get to Khanty-Mansiysk.

In summer, you can get to the capital of Ugra by river traffic. During the navigation period, the Khanty-Mansiysk river station, located on the Irtysh River, serves intercity flights from Omsk, Salekhard, Tobolsk and Surgut. Passenger ships leave from Surgut and Tobolsk every day, and from Omsk and Salekhard - every two days.
