In order to navigate in a foreign city, it is important to understand where its center is. And from there you can already get to any point of interest by public transport or on foot using a map.
Instructions
Step 1
Get a city map. Abroad, you can buy it in souvenir shops, sometimes cards are provided free of charge at bus stations, hotels, railway stations. Find a tourist information support office, in different countries they are named differently, but the name, as a rule, contains the words Tourist, Information, Info. There they will guide you, tell you how best to get to the object you need. Just in case, have a notebook with the addresses of the places you need to visit, take a business card at the hotel, you can show it to the taxi driver or passers-by. In Russian cities, a city map (if it exists) can be purchased at Rospechat kiosks or at local post offices.
Step 2
Be guided by tram or trolleybus routes. In the cities of Russia, the construction of new tram rails and the laying of trolleybus overhead wires have not been carried out over the past twenty years, the transportation of passengers to new areas is carried out using route taxis. Therefore, if you see tram rails or a contact network for a trolleybus pantograph, then you are on the territory of an old city development, that is, the center is not very far away.
Step 3
Remember that when laying streets, houses are numbered from the center, that is, house number 2 will be closer to the city center than house 38. Pay attention to architecture, the closer to the center, the more interesting and varied the facades of the houses. The farther from the center of any city (both Russian and European), the more houses of the same face come across. On the edge of the city, there may generally be a private sector.
Step 4
Take advantage of the latest electronics, such as navigators. Find a map of the city you are going to visit on the Internet and upload it to your navigator. If your mobile phone allows, you can download the map directly into it.
