Russia and Canada today have the status of states with the largest territory in the world. These two countries are very similar in rich resources, natural conditions and landscapes. Where are Russia and Canada, and how else are they similar?
Geographic features
Russia and Canada are geographically neighboring countries, since their conditional borders converge at the North Pole. The extreme south of Canada is located at the same latitude as Georgia, while the Canadian Arctic Archipelago is located at a distance of 1000 kilometers from the North Pole. Most of Canada is located in those geographic latitudes where the former countries are located. Unlike Russia with its eleven time zones, Canada has only six.
Both countries have rich forests, fur animals, minerals and vast tracts of fertile land.
The climatic and natural conditions of Russia and Canada are extremely similar - in Russia you can find both Sochi palms and the Arctic tundra, while in Canada the same grows from southern Ontario to the North Pole. Canada also has a huge number of rivers with large reserves of water. These include the Niagara River and Niagara Falls, one of the largest in the world. The Russian water giant is Lake Baikal, which contains the largest reserves of fresh water in the world.
Population
A huge number of Russian citizens live on the territory of Canada. What attracts them to Canada, bringing it closer to Russia also on a national basis? The Russian Center for Canadian Studies has repeatedly conducted research on this topic and has identified several main reasons from a number of advantages of living in Canada. The fact is that Canada is a developed country where the standard of living is very high, while Russia with its quality of education, environmental conditions, medicine and personal safety of citizens lags far behind.
The Russian government is gradually planning to adopt the Canadian experience in order to introduce various social programs.
Various national-ethnic groups live in Canada, which, like similar Russian groups, have conflicts with each other. Both the Canadian and Russian authorities are seriously concerned about overcoming them and maintaining stability in the states. For this reason, mutual experience in solving these problems is also an important factor in Russia's interest in Canada.
And, finally, Russians are eager to go to Canada, since there is a large selection of various educational programs for students from Russia. Canada is doubly interesting for them, since it is possible to improve the French and English languages, which are official in this country.
