Cienfuegos is a very beautiful city, which is why unofficially it is often called the "pearl of the south". It was founded back in 1819 by emigrants from France. Then the city was called Fernandina de Jagua and differed from other Cuban cities in perfectly flat and perpendicular streets, beauty and sophistication.
It is worth noting that, despite its attractiveness, the provincial town is the most sparsely populated on the island. On the territory of Cienfuegos, decorated mostly in the style of late neoclassicism, there is the oldest fortress of Cuba, which is one of the three largest in the country. Interestingly, the fortress was built long before the city began to be built.
Tourists here can fully enjoy the warm sea waters and beautiful beaches. Cienfuegos has many sites that are great for snorkeling. Among them are Rancho Luna, Playa Ingles, Guahimico and many others.
The city boasts the rich pristine nature of Escambraya, one of the largest Cuban mountain ranges, as well as its mineral springs, the healing properties of which have been tested and confirmed by experts.
The historic center of Cienfuegos is considered a national pride. Here is the Arms Square with the legendary Cuban Arc de Triomphe. Around it, the Nuestra Señora de la Purisima Concepción cathedral, the house of the Collegium of San Lorenzo, Palatino, the Tomas Terry theater and the Founder's House are vividly blended in. El Nicho, represented by waterfalls, natural pools, paths and caves, located at half a kilometer above sea level. Such a trip will surely be remembered for its unique landscapes.
One of the largest stalagmite in all of Latin America and the largest stalagmite on the island grows in the Martin Infierno cave, which is recognized as a national monument. At present, its height is 67 meters. There are also two other natural wonders - "Plaster Flowers" and "Moon Milk".
