In order to have an inexpensive vacation in May, you can wait for the appearance on sale of last minute deals to inexpensive hotels. But is it worth it to compromise with yourself when the right organization and advance planning will allow you to go where you have always dreamed of getting, for very reasonable money.

Step 1
Start planning your trip in advance, for example, after the New Year holidays. Think about which country (or city on the territory of the Russian Federation) you are interested in visiting.

Select a time frame in May when you can travel. If you want to have an inexpensive vacation abroad, give preference to the second half of the month, as tour operators and airlines often raise fares for the May holidays, which many prefer to spend abroad. If you want to travel by train, remember that the lowest fares are valid for departures on 8 and 9 May. This will save you 50% of the cost, but tickets are worth purchasing 45 days in advance as they run out quickly.
Step 3
Subscribe to the mailing list of airlines operating flights on the route you are interested in, and regularly view promotional offers. If you are interested in any option, purchase a ticket via the Internet using a bank card. Remember that special offers often limit the weight of your luggage. In addition, it is not always possible to obtain the full price for returned tickets.
Step 4
Choose the hotel that you can afford by yourself. To do this, look at the offers of specialized sites or the official pages of hotels. If you are on a very tight budget, you can book a hostel, stay at a camping site, or find people in the city of your interest who, on very reasonable terms, will let you spend the night. This information can be found on social media or tourism websites. The latter option is acceptable if you have an open visa, for example, to the countries of the Schengen agreement, otherwise you will have to secure an invitation letter, and not every stranger will do this.
Step 5
Apply for a visa on your own, without resorting to the services of intermediaries. To do this, fill out the questionnaire yourself, take photos, collect the necessary documents and visit the consular department of the corresponding embassy. Make your visa in advance, as soon as you have purchased tickets, so you do not have to pay for urgent processing.
Step 6
Find out in advance which tourist cards are valid in the country of visit. For example, some programs allow you to visit a number of museums, get a discount at catering points, and use public transport. All this in a set turns out to be much cheaper. In addition, find out the addresses of inexpensive cafes or student canteens, find on the map the supermarket closest to your place of residence, where you can buy water and food.
