Crete is the largest Greek island. There is something to do here for lovers of beach holidays, extreme sports, road trips and boat trips.
1. Hersonissos
The most famous youth resort on the island, located near the capital, Heraklion. Hersonissos is a small but noisy and lively town with many nightclubs, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and shops. There is also a water park. In the distance, along the sea, there are hotels that are quite suitable for families. There is a bus service between the cities.
2. Malia
A lively resort east of Heraklion, near Hersonissos. There is also nightlife here, but not on the same scale as the first resort.
3. Amoudara
A wonderful sandy beach, for lovers of a measured relaxing holiday or for families with children. And if you want to go to the club, then it is not far to go to Heraklion.
4. Agios Nikolaus
It is considered to be the most beautiful on the island. There are not many tourists here, and you can feel the real atmosphere of a Mediterranean town. Wander the narrow streets, sit in a Greek tavern and dance the sertaki. The beach is small here. From the small port, excursion boats leave for the island of Spinalonga, where there used to be an infirmary for lepers.
5. Rethymno and surroundings
There are also many narrow streets, authentic taverns, as well as a beautiful fortress and port. The Italians built the city, which is reflected in the architecture. There are beautiful beaches and great hotels in the vicinity of Rethymno.
6. Chania
A city in the western part of the island. There is also an airport here, but Russian charters do not fly here, and therefore there are significantly fewer Russian tourists than in the vicinity of Heraklion. Here is the most picturesque nature on the island - mountains, a large amount of greenery, a transparent sea. As well as interesting architecture and jazz festivals. It is here that you can feel the real culture of the inhabitants of the island.
7. Ierapetra
A city in the south of the island. The tourist season lasts the longest here, right up to November, as this is the "hottest" point in Greece. In the city itself you can find interesting buildings and museums. Every year excursions are organized from here to the island of Chrissi, with crystal clear water.
