A city that does not exist: mysticism in St. Petersburg
There are so many mystical legends about various places in St. Petersburg, as, perhaps, about no other city in the world. In St. Petersburg, both locals and visitors often see ghosts and even talk to them, and native Petersburgers who have lived here all their lives can get lost and wander for hours in their native area. Esotericists associate this primarily with the fact that the city was once built, as they say, “on bones”: thousands of people died during the construction of its majestic streets, along which their restless souls still roam.
Perhaps the most famous ghosts of St. Petersburg are Peter I, who can be met on the eve of important events for the city, as well as Paul I, whose spirit still wanders around his residence - Mikhailovsky Castle. The infamous house on Gorokhovaya Street is home to the spirit of Grigory Rasputin, and each of St. Petersburg's many cemeteries has its own ghosts and legends. The most terrifying of them concerns forty priests buried alive by the Chekists in the Smolensk cemetery. They say that even today near this grave one can hear groans, grinding and inhuman howls.
Separately, it should be said about the roofs of St. Petersburg. They not only offer stunning views; sometimes the life of those who climbed there changes dramatically. They say that the innermost wishes made on the roofs of some of Peter's houses come true. Thus, a night spent on the roof of one of the houses on Gorokhovaya Street 20 years ago changed the life of one unknown girl, whom millions of people know today as the leader of a cult rock group.
