The Black Sea coast of the Caucasus remains one of the most popular destinations for Russians during the high season. Features of the region
The length of the coastline of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus within the borders of Russia is a little more than 250 km, but there are two geographic zones on this section. It is a temperate zone and a subtropical climate zone. The first stretches from Port Caucasus, which is on the border with the Sea of Azov, and to Tuapse, and the second - from Tuapse to Sochi, next to which the border with the Republic of Abkhazia already passes. I must say that the difference between these zones is quite tangible.
After Tuapse, the coast takes on a completely different look - subtropical vegetation appears, including exotic palms and eucalyptus trees, which grow in open ground and in natural conditions. However, the temperate zone of the coast is no less beautiful, especially since the spurs first stretch along it, and then the Great Caucasus Range itself, and, approaching Sochi, you can see mountain peaks in the distance, snow on which lies almost until the end of May.
The best time for a vacation on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus
If you are fond of alpine skiing, go to Krasnaya Polyana. It is only 50 km from Sochi. The season starts there in December and ends at the end of March. The infrastructure built for the Olympics made this ski resort one of the best in Russia.
In the event that the heat and crowds of people are not for you, but you want to bask in the sun, come in April, May or June. The opening of the season in coastal cities takes place in the first half of June, but in fact it begins in July, because the sea is still quite cool until that time. In April, the water temperature usually does not exceed 17-18 ° C, and only by July it rises to 22 ° C. But on the other hand, clean air and a lot of sun, green mountains and local cherries will be provided for you. In addition, the cost of rooms in private boarding houses and hotels is reasonable.
In September and October, the coast is also good. There are much fewer tourists, the sun is not so hot, and the sea is still very warm. Cold September over the years turned out only once - in 2013, so there is a high probability that, having come to the coast this fall, you will be able to taste all the delights of the velvet season and enjoy the alluring aroma of grapes ripening in the sun.
The only thing to consider when going on a trip is the proximity of the sea, which makes the weather on the coast quite unpredictable. Even old-timers cannot guarantee you that your vacation will not be overshadowed by a few days of cold northeast. This wind does not blow often, but not less than 3 days.
