Sea, sun, beach, plains, majestic snowy mountains, forests, lakes and rivers … Is it possible to bring all these natural beauties together in a small area of just over five hundred square kilometers? It turns out, yes. There is such a unique place - Montenegro, it is not just a country, it is a real fairy tale for any tourist.
Montenegro is located on the Balkan Peninsula, or rather, in its southwestern part. This small country appeared on the world map quite recently, in 2006. The country owes its name to the dense dark forests that cover the mountains of old Montenegro.
What climatic zone is Montenegro in?
It is surprising, but despite the modest size of the territory of Montenegro, the country's climate is very diverse. Four geographic zones can be conditionally distinguished:
- the coast of Montenegro;
- rocky plateaus;
- central plain;
- highlands.
Montenegro is an ecologically clean country, it was proclaimed a European national park.

The coast of Montenegro is simply magnificent, it has a wonderful Mediterranean climate. The length of the beaches is 73 km. It is a lovely warm area with dry and long summers and short, cool winters. The swimming season starts in April. In summer, the temperature on the coast is 23-26 ° C, in winter - about 5-7 ° C above zero.
The rocky plateaus of Montenegro are poorly populated. The fact is that the climate on this territory is not particularly favorable - lingering showers, which can last for several days in a row, very few people suit. However, this area is very picturesque; one of the attractions of the plateau is the Lovcen National Park.
Montenegro is a unique country, more than 40% of its territory is covered by forests and about 40% by pastures. There are unique water resources here, the transparency of the water in some places exceeds 35 meters.
The central plain of Montenegro is the most densely populated area in the country. The largest cities and fertile lands are located here. The plain has a very warm climate.
The highlands occupy most of the country's territory. This area is rich in rivers, lakes and, of course, forests. It has a subalpine climate with hot summers and cold snowy winters, the temperature here drops to 10 ° C below zero. Of course, this part of Montenegro is a godsend for ski lovers.

On land, Montenegro shares borders with countries such as Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Serbia and Kosovo. The total length of the land borders of Montenegro is approximately 614 km.
