One of the most famous architectural monuments of the fifteenth-sixteenth centuries is the Cathedral of St. Basil the Great on Gorka. The church is located not far from Oktyabrsky Prospekt on Vasilievskaya Gorka, which is surrounded by green trees and looks like an island in a vast swamp. An example of the Middle Ages is the Pskov Fortress. High thick walls are located along natural boundaries (the Great and Pskov rivers). They once made Pskov an impregnable fortress. The fortress walls, which originally occupied only five hectares of area, over time began to cover an ever larger area. In total, there are five rings of the fortress walls near Pskov, the fifth ring could include part of the territory of Zapskov. The fortifications have nine kilometers of walls and thirty-five towers. The Pskov Historical and Art Museum-Reserve "Pogankiny Chambers" is considered the largest museum in Pskov. It is located in the historical part of the city, in a stone building of the seventeenth century, not far from the walls of the Middle City. This building belonged to the merchant Sergei Pogankin, after whose death the chambers were transferred to the church. At the moment, there is an exposition here, which includes objects that reveal the culture and life of the Pskov land from the Neolithic to the present day. The main shrine of Pskov is the Trinity Cathedral, which has been erected four times in its rich history. In the tenth century, it was built of wood, but burned down in a fire. Then a stone temple was erected on this site, but later the building collapsed. In the fourteenth century, the cathedral was rebuilt by a local architect, and only by the end of the seventeenth century, the construction of the cathedral, which you can observe today, was completely finished. In addition to remarkable architecture, the seven-tiered, gilded, carved wooden iconostasis of the eighteenth century, located in this temple, is of great value. One can talk for a long time and a lot about the sights of the Pskov land, introducing the culture and history of Russia. These extraordinary and holy places, decorated with Russian landscapes, create an atmosphere of peace and harmony. It is here that you want to listen to silence, breathe and think only of good things. Be sure to visit Pskov and its sights.
