Linderhof Castle is located in a picturesque valley in the south of Bavaria. It is surrounded by a wonderful park with a huge number of gilded sculptures and colorful alleys. The graceful and fabulous castle was erected by order of the dreamy Bavarian king Ludwig II, thanks to whom other incredible castles - Herrenchiemsee and Neuschwanstein - appeared in Germany at one time.

Since childhood, Ludwig was fond of legends and fairytale castles. He identified himself with the swan knight from the opera by Richard Wagner. In 1867, Ludwig visited France and wanted to build his own Palace of Versailles in the picturesque Alps.

The construction of the castle began in 1869. Linderhof was designed as a country palace, in which nothing would distract the king from rest.

Linderhof Castle is the epitome of elegant French luxury. The symbol of the castle is a peacock; his statues adorn the pavilions, halls and alleys of the complex.

The castle flourished in 1874, when the main buildings were completed. The final finishing of the interiors was completed in the last year of Ludwig II's life - in 1886.

Linderhof is a fantastic world, another reality in which everything amazes with luxury, sophistication and splendor. The largest room is the king's bedroom, which was designed by theater artist Angelo Quadlio.

The castle has 4 rooms: the Hall of Mirrors, the West Tapestry Hall, the Reception Hall and the Dining Hall. Most of all, Ludwig loved to be in the Hall of Mirrors, spending his nights reading books. And the king considered new projects in the Reception Hall, which served as an office.

The most famous place in Linderhof is the Grotto of Venus. This artificial cave has a small lake with a waterfall. At one time, the best singers of Germany sang in the grotto, and dancers were located on a special island.

The castle is surrounded by gardens that are considered a masterpiece of landscape design. In the gardens you can see allegorical sculptures, pools, fountains and even a linden tree, which is more than 3 centuries old.
