In the north-east of Spain, 60 kilometers from Barcelona, there is a quiet and cozy town of Blanes. It belongs to the resorts of the Costa Brava and is washed by the gentle Mediterranean Sea. The sun shines here almost all year round, and the Mediterranean climate is conducive to relaxation. Sometimes winds blow, but they do not cause inconvenience, but only bring coolness on hot days.
The history of Blanes goes back to the 3rd century BC, so the city has something to brag about to its many guests. Blanes' golden age fell on the XII-XIV centuries, when it was ruled by the Blanes aristocratic family. The city received many privileges due to its favorable geographical position and the presence of a port.
The centuries-old history of Blanes is reflected in its many attractions. The ruins of the castle, which belonged to the Viscounts de Carbert, are 1000 years old. The 11th century San Juan Watchtower offers a magnificent view of the entire city and its surroundings. On the outskirts of Blanes there is a 12th century Romanesque basilica - the Basilica of Saint Barbara. In the city itself, you can see a huge number of cathedrals and churches, including the 14th century church of Santa Maria. The Church of St. Barbara amazes with its beauty and grandeur, and the monastery of St. Anne, built in the Gothic style, has survived from the Capuchin Order.
The centuries-old history of Blanes is preserved in the “Old Town”, which contrasts with modern buildings. In Blanes, you can wander through the narrow and inimitable medieval streets, being transported for a while into the atmosphere of bygone centuries.
The location of Blanes allows you to additionally make excursions to other cities. Only 60 kilometers away is Barcelona, the sights of which are simply impossible to see in one day. For those who like to combine a relaxing holiday with noisy fun, it is advisable to get out on one of the evenings in Lloretta, famous for its rich nightlife, taking place in chic clubs, bars and numerous discos. You can feel like a pirate trying to capture one of the fortresses in Tossa de Mar. Fans of painting will not be able to refuse a trip to Figares to the theater-museum of the outstanding Salvador Dali. In the town of Pubol, you can see the castle bought by Dali for his muse Gala. During this trip, you can enjoy the taste of the best Spanish wines at one of the wine cellars' tastings.
Blanes is a small town, but there is also entertainment for every taste. Here you can admire the historical sights, or you can retire in one of the botanical gardens to enjoy the beauty of nature. Two sala are on the same mountain as the San Juan Tower. Both adults and children will be delighted with the Water World water park. There is another interesting water park “Marineland” in the municipality of Santa Susanna, but it has not only entertainment, but also a dolphinarium with a wonderful show.
Blanes' beaches are sandy and pebbly, separated from each other by cozy coves. Here you can relax, sunbathe and swim, or you can practice your favorite sports. Diving enthusiasts will be pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the underwater world - colorful fish, moray eels, starfish, octopuses and hedgehogs. The beauty of the coast can be seen from boats and snow-white yachts, offering a variety of excursions.
If you get to Blanes at the end of July, you can find yourself at a spectacular fireworks festival that has delighted both locals and visitors alike for over a hundred years.
