Ancient European castles are shrouded in secrets, legends and mysticism. They fascinate with their beauty. Every self-respecting medieval castle in Europe is capable of boasting at least one ghost or at least one terrible legend. What are the majestic European castles worthy of special attention?
Rozmberk castle
The castle, created of white brick, is located in the south of the Czech Republic, in the suburb of Rozmberk nad Vltavou. It opened its doors in the mid-1200s, for a long time it was the residence of the aristocratic Rožmberk family.
According to legend, the White Lady (or White Lady, Lady in White) lives within the walls of a medieval building. She is the restless spirit of Perkhta, the daughter of Baron Rosenberg. If she appears to tourists in a white-sleeved robe, it’s luck. If with the Reds - difficulties await ahead. If the sleeves of the ghost dress are black, there will be trouble (serious illness, death).
Legends say that the Rozhmberk family was cursed first by an old monk, and then by Count Lichtenstein. Probably because of the curse, the spirit of Perkhta dwells within the walls of the European terrible castle.
Dragsholm Castle
Today the medieval architectural monument is not a museum. A hotel is open within its walls. However, this does not at all prevent the castle, located in Denmark, from keeping its many secrets and being reputed to be a place inhabited by ghosts.
Most often, from the guests of the castle-hotel and from the employees, you can hear the story of a ghostly young girl who wanders through the rooms and sobs inconsolably. In the distant past, she was immured alive in one of the walls of Dragsholm on the orders of her own father.
Strange sounds are often heard in a Danish medieval castle: rattles, rustles, creaks, coughs. This is another local ghost - the spirit of Bothwell. He was the earl who died in Dragsholm while the castle was a prison. It happened in the 16th century.
It is worth noting that, according to researchers of the paranormal and mystical, at least 90 more ghosts live within the walls of Dragsholm. Some of the spirits are friendly, like the Gray Lady, while others try to scare the guests of the hotel.
Moosham Castle (Muusham)
There is a mysterious castle in Austria. It was erected in the early 1200s on the Salzburg land. Located at an altitude of 1080 meters.

Its mesmerizing appearance is pristine. Eltz Castle has never been besieged, bombed or changed ownership. It is ruled by the Eltz dynasty to this day.
There is a belief that Eltz is guarded by spirits or some other magical power that creates an invisible barrier against external threats. A huge number of antiques have been preserved inside the castle. It is in this place, mysterious and enigmatic, that you can fully feel the medieval spirit.
The only ghost that visitors to Eltz tell about is the Countess Agnes. She died while trying to protect her castle from intruders. Since then, she has been wandering around the rooms and corridors like a ghost, however, not trying to scare tourists. She continues to protect Eltz Castle just as she did during her lifetime.
Meggerney Castle
The snow-white building was erected in the 17th century. It is located in Scotland.
Meggerney Castle is famous for one very unusual ghost. It is inhabited by a woman who was once the wife of the chef who works in the castle. She repeatedly cheated on her husband, and one day he could not stand it. Grabbing his wife, he cut her in two with a butcher's ax. Since then, a "cut" ghost has been wandering within the walls of the Scottish castle: the upper part of the ghostly woman visits the upper floors of the building, and the lower one is found on the first floor and in the basement.
They say that the female spirit loves to attract the attention of men. In the corridors and rooms, you can hear cheerful, enticing laughter. And some tourists after visiting Meggerney Castle said that they felt the touch of cold female hands and lips.
