Vladikavkaz is the capital of North Ossetia - Alania. Until 1990, this settlement was called Ordzhonikidze, but after the collapse of the USSR, its historical name was returned to it. In 2007, Vladikavkaz was awarded the title "City of Military Glory"; now it is one of the largest industrial centers of the Russian Federation.

The second bus station serves intercity flights between Vladikavkaz and Grozny, Makhachkala, Derbent, Khasavyurt, Sleptsovskaya and Mozdok.
