Tourists who come to Vienna, as a rule, are not limited to one country and decide to visit the capital of Slovakia as well. Fortunately, the small distance between them allows it. You can get to Bratislava by bus, train or catamaran, and the journey in any case will take about an hour.
Which is better - by bus, car or train?
Vienna and Bratislava are the only capital cities in the world that are closest to each other. The distance between them is only 64 km (40 miles). You can travel from Vienna to Bratislava by several types of transport: rail, river and road.
The easiest way to get from Vienna to Bratislava is by bus. The bus is the cheapest option: a ticket costs about 7-8 euros, children under three travel for free. You can familiarize yourself with the routes of different companies and choose the one you like.
The most popular is the route when the bus goes from the bus station through the Vienna airport and to the Bratislava stop "New Bridge". Its popularity is due to the fact that the Novy Most bus station is considered the center of Bratislava, and here you can climb Bratislava Castle and look at the city from above.
If you are traveling by your own car or simply decided to rent a car, then you can get from Vienna to Bratislava in this way. There are two ways to get to Bratislava. The route starts from the A4 highway to the town of Fischamend, and then there are two forks: one on the B9, the other on the A6. In the first variant, the road will take about 65 km with a limit of 100 km / h, in the other variant - 80 km of the road and a limit of 130 km / h.

Trains from Vienna leave from the South Station, and the journey takes about an hour. Arrival of trains at one of the stations in Bratislava is not the most convenient option, since from here you will have to get to the desired place by other means of transport.
Travel from Vienna to Bratislava along the Danube
In the summer, there is another option for traveling from Vienna to Bratislava - along the Danube. You can combine business with pleasure and travel by speed boat, admiring the beauty of the river and natural landscapes along the way. The boat moves at a speed of 60 km / h, so the route will take about 75 minutes. The price of such a trip will be much higher, but it will also bring much more pleasure. In addition, unlike the same trains or some buses, boats and catamarans arrive directly in the center of Bratislava, where you can take a walk and admire the old town.
