Once on vacation in Montenegro, you will definitely want to go to the mountains. But once in the mountains, it is impossible to pass by the famous landmark of the country - the Djurdzhevich Bridge.
brief information
The famous Djurdjevic Bridge is a place for which it is worth going on vacation to Montenegro. This landmark, built in the last century in the 30s, is breathtaking with its beauty and splendor. Standing on the bridge, the heart seems to freeze with fear (after all, the height of the bridge reaches 170 meters) and the unprecedented beauty of the Tara canyon. Amazingly beautiful nature, rich greenery, rocks simply fascinate the eye.
This bridge is made of concrete and is of an arched type (it has four smaller arches and one large one that runs through the deepest part of the canyon), is a landmark of the Durmitor National Park. At one time, extreme amateurs jumped from it on a "bungee", and now on the bridge you can meet many tourists with cameras. Previously, this bridge was the highest in Europe, now in the country.
Historical events
The unique project of the bridge was developed by I. Troyanovich, and the construction work was carried out by L. Yanukovych and I. Russo. This giant, 365 meters long, connects the whole country, divided into two parts by the Tara Canyon, at the bottom of which flows the turbulent river of the same name. Because of the only easy way to cross the canyon, battles were fought over this bridge, so it was decided to blow it up. Yanukovych knew the construction of the bridge well and made calculations of the site of the explosion in such a way that it could be restored.
An arch located in the center was blown up, in connection with which the Italian troops had to retreat. After the retreat by the Italian invaders, Lazar Yanukovych was captured and shot. In his memory, a monument was erected to the brave great engineer in the canyon near the bridge.
According to the preserved drawings, the bridge was not only restored, but also repaired. Currently, it attracts a large flow of tourists to Montenegro and pleases with its splendor.
The filmmakers could not ignore this amazing structure and made the films "The Bridge" and "Hurricane from Navarone".
In Montenegro, it is customary to name places by the names of the people living in them. So the bridge is named the Djurdzhevich Bridge in honor of the farmer who lived in these parts.
How to get to the Djurdjevic bridge
If you take a map, then the Djurdjevic bridge is lego to find. It can be reached from Budva by any of the regular buses that run along the Moykovac-Zabljak highway, having traveled 170-190 km. You can also rent an excursion car, which will take about three and a half hours to get to the Djurdzhevich Bridge.
There were cases when tourists tried to get to the bridge by bicycles. This is a bad idea. The road to the bridge is located in the rocks and on the way to it goes from a mountain resembling a serpentine, making it easy to go down by bike. But it is absolutely impossible to go back by this type of transport, even for a person with special training.
