For the first time, the translation of clocks in order to save energy resources was carried out in 1908 in Great Britain. The very idea of translating the hour hands belongs to Benjamin Franklin, a statesman and one of the authors of the US Declaration of Independence.
Currently, watches are translated in more than 100 of 192 countries of the world. Clocks are translated at all geographic latitudes, from Canada to Australia. Meanwhile, there are countries that, for various reasons, do not see the point in translating arrows.
Africa
On the African continent, only three states translate watches - Namibia, Tunisia and Egypt. The remaining 59 countries abandoned this venture. Meanwhile, in the equatorial states, the transition to winter / summer time has never been introduced at all. These include Kenya, Gabon, Congo, Tanzania, Somalia, Equatorial Guinea and others.
Europe
Of all European countries, only Belarus, Russia and Iceland do not move the arrows. Iceland's time is the same as Greenwich time, and only in the summer is it one hour behind London. Over time, a very interesting situation has developed in Russia. The Russian authorities decided to abandon the translation of clocks, motivating their decision with the desire to return to the world practice of time reckoning. However, they subsequently changed their minds, and soon the inhabitants of Russia will again set their clocks twice a year.
Asia
For various reasons, such Asian countries as South and North Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, India, Singapore, the Philippines, China and Japan, as well as some Central Asian republics of the CIS, once refused to play with time.
So, the Land of the Rising Sun decided to abandon the translation of hours for a moral reason. The fact is that summer time in this state was enforced in the post-war period by the occupation authorities. The setting of the clock was then met with disapproval by most Japanese. The lengthening of the working day for people who were exhausted by hunger, war and devastation was perceived as the intrigues of the invaders.
North and South America
In Central America, time translation is carried out in Honduras, Cuba, most of Mexico, and a number of small island countries. Panama, Guatemala, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador and other smaller countries in this region do not translate their hour hands.
In Canada and the USA, clocks are changed twice a year. However, not all states in these North American states follow this rule. So, residents of the northwestern part of the Canadian province of Ontario and the American states of Arizona and Hawaii do not move the arrows.
Australia
Australia partially sets the clock. This country was one of the first to approve of the idea of switching to summer and winter time. Australians have been translating arrows since 1917. However, not all regions of this state carry out the translation of the arrows. The states of Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia ignore the "games with time".
