There are many cities in Europe with a long and glorious history, which are of great interest to foreign visitors. These include, of course, the capitals. Paris, London, Rome, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Brussels, Madrid … This is not a complete list of the capital cities where tourists from various countries are striving. Each of them is famous in its own way, beautiful, interesting. But which of the European capitals can be considered the most famous?
Rome - the eternal city
The capital of Italy, located on the banks of the narrow Tiber River, has a very ancient history, in which there were both periods of greatness and decline. This city, the foundation of which dates back to the middle of the 8th century BC, after several centuries turned into the capital of a huge powerful empire. For a long time, no one could compete with Rome in power, wealth and influence.
It is no coincidence that one well-known Roman writer wrote that the main purpose of a Roman is to rule over nations.
But later Rome fell, defeated and devastated by barbarian tribes. For a long time it was in decline, but after a while it again turned into the center of European civilization.
This was facilitated by the fact that it was in Rome that the residence of the head of the Catholic Church was located.
From ancient times in Rome, numerous historical monuments of world importance have survived, for example, the gigantic amphitheater Colosseum, temples, triumphal columns and arches, theaters and bridges, the Pantheon, which later became the resting place of the most famous citizens of Italy.
Millions of tourists come to this city to see both these sights and creations of the Middle Ages: cathedrals, palaces, villas, fountains. Many aspire to the Vatican Museums, where masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and other geniuses of art are collected.
Paris - the capital of fashion and good taste
The capital of France, Paris, is also very famous and popular among tourists. One of the most beautiful cities in the world, stretching along the banks of the Seine River, irresistibly attracts guests from all over the world. They begin their acquaintance with the city, examining the wonderful architectural ensemble of the historical heart of Paris - the Isle of Cité. There is the famous Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, the Conciergerie Palace, which became a gloomy prison in the era of the Great French Revolution, the royal chapel of Saint-Chapelle, with huge and amazingly beautiful stained glass windows.
And outside the island of Cité, tourists will find the grandiose, famous Louvre Museum, the Les Invalides complex, where Napoleon Bonaparte is buried, the famous Eiffel Tower, beautiful squares, palaces, parks and much more.
But Paris is also famous for its fashion designers, perfumers, culinary specialists, and art workers. For a long time and rightfully it bears the unofficial proud title of the capital of fashion. That is why this country is visited by people with a refined taste.
