Togliatti is one of the largest construction projects in the history of the USSR. In just a few decades, an ordinary provincial town turned into an advanced industrial city with a population of over half a million people. Togliatti was strikingly different from other Soviet cities: wide avenues and a well-developed social infrastructure make it attractive for internal migration to this day.

Togliatti is the center of the Stavropol district of the Samara region, and the city itself is 88 kilometers away from Samara. The district, the center of which is Togliatti, is not accidentally named Stavropol. The thing is that until 1964 Togliatti bore the name Stavropol. Thus, until 1964, there were two cities in Russia with this name: Stavropol-on-Volga (Togliatti) and Stavropol on the southern border of Russia, which today is the center of the Stavropol Territory. Togliatti is located in the Moscow time zone. Other cities close to Togliatti will be Kazan (350 km), Ulyanovsk (230 km) and Penza (360 km).
