It was founded by Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich in 1635, was called Bozhedomsky and at first existed as a monastery. In subsequent years, it was rebuilt several times. In the 1920s, the monastery was closed, the bell tower was blown up, and a park was laid out on a part of the monastery territory. In 1994, the monastery was returned to the church.
