Stavropol is a unique and beautiful city located on the southwestern slope of the Stavropol Upland. Once this wonderful city was decorated with churches and surrounded by a wall, but the revolution and wars did their job and practically nothing remained of the ancient heritage. However, having visited Stavropol in our time, you will find many interesting places and attractions for yourself.
Travelers and tourists who decide to visit Stavropol will probably be interested to know that in this city there is a street called "45th parallel", which means its exact latitudinal location. It turns out that Stavropol is equidistant from the equator and the North Pole. Moreover, it is located on the watershed between the basins of the Caspian and Azov seas, right in the center between them. It is also interesting that there is only one residential building on Suvorov Street. The Stavropol Territory has a lot of places of interest that keep the memory of the activities and lives of such remarkable and great artists as Lermontov, Pushkin, Chaliapin and Lev Tolstoy. In Stavropol, every corner breathes with its own history, and every building lives with its own legend. An amazing place in this land can be called the Tatar settlement, which is located between the village of Tatarka and Stavropol. This is a miraculously preserved archaeological site of Ciscavakazia, surrounded by country and rural buildings, roads and fields. As the researchers later found out, the settlement functioned from the eighth to the eleventh centuries AD for four whole historical periods: Scythian, Koban, Khazar and Sarmatian. "Central" park is the green pearl of the city of Stavropol and a natural monument, which is protected by the state. The park covers an area of twelve hectares and is located in the very center of the city. There is a legend that Russian writers who came here (M. Yu. Lermontov, A. S. Pushkin and A. S. Griboyedov) often walked in this park under the canopy of foliage. You will be amazed by the unique chestnut alleys, flowerpots with flower arrangements, "Airplane" and "Airship" flower beds, named after the first human flight. Graceful grottoes and greenhouses attract the eyes of not only travelers, but also townspeople, so the "Central" Park is still a favorite vacation spot. The flowerbeds "Korean" and "Varyag" are dedicated to the heroes of the Japanese war. Everything is done in the park to preserve its historical value as a natural monument. Be sure to visit the Stavropol Museum of Fine Arts, because this is the only collection of paintings where there are departments of Western European, antique, Russian, oriental and modern art. Here you can also see the collection of icon painting. The works of artists of the Stavropol Territory represent here a large part of the collection of modern paintings. Victory Park in Stavropol is one of the largest parks in Russia. It covers an area of more than two hundred hectares of green natural forest. The leisure and cultural complex includes more than thirty domestic-made attractions and the only zoo in the Stavropol Territory.
