The Alhambra, a palace complex-fortress, rises majestically over the Andalusian city of Granada. It was built during the reign of the last dynasty of Muslim emirs - the Nasrid. The giant complex, the construction of which took place in the XIII-XIV centuries, is located on the Sabik hill. It includes palaces, mosques, watchtowers, baths, schools - the list is endless.
Alhambra is a striking example of the Moorish style. You can get to the majestic fortress through the Gates of Justice, and from them go to the Alcazaba - the oldest citadel, the first mention of which is found in the 9th century. One of the towers of the Alcazaba (Patrol), whose height is 27 meters, offers picturesque views of the surrounding area. In general, there are many towers in the Alhambra, each of which has an unusual name: Broken Tower, Chicken Tower or Tower of Heads.
Palaces are a unique part of the Alhambra: the palace of Charles V, the Komares palace (the former official residence of the emir), the Lviv palace.
Almost every centimeter of the Alhambra is covered with ornaments, carvings, calligraphy and other decorative elements. This is the merit of numerous architects who have worked on the appearance of the Alhambra in different centuries. For example, the dome of the Throne Hall in the Komare Palace is covered with decorative carvings - the finest and incredibly beautiful. Carvings can be found on the walls and numerous arches.
Not far from the Alhambra is the summer residence of the Moorish rulers - Generalife. The buildings themselves are rather modest, but they are surrounded by luxurious gardens with fountains, courtyards, fruit trees, winding paths and arches. It is recommended to combine a visit to the Alhambra with a visit to the Generalife.
