Lodeynoye Pole is a great city, and its name hints at a connection with the shipbuilding industry. It was in this city in 1703 that the construction of the Olonets shipyard began, from which the first ship was launched. A little later, a village appeared around this shipyard.
History of the city
Before the town of Lodeynoye Pole was formed around the shipyard, there were several villages. This is Kanoma and a settlement called Mokrishvitsa. Residents living in the village, for a long time, were mainly engaged in the construction of ships by rafting timber - there was a lot of it in these places.
Lodeinoe Pole was founded in 1702 by the decree of Peter the Great, and then it was a small village in which shipbuilders lived. The city was built after the Olonets shipyard of shipbuilding.
The city has all the rights to be the homeland and foundation of the Baltic domestic fleet, because in 1703 the frigate "Standart" with 28 guns appeared and was sent to free navigation there. After that, many other ships and the notorious Baltic squadron were built.
The shipyard worked and existed even before 1830, and during its operation more than 400 ships were created and sent to the water, among which was the world-famous ship "Mirny".
In 1875, during the reign of Catherine II, the settlements near the shipyard were united into one large city, and after that Lodeynoye Pole became the basis not only for shipbuilding, but also for timber trade and woodworking. This had a great impact on the development of the city. And after 1915, a railway line was laid through the city, thanks to which Lodeynoye Pole was connected with Murmansk and St. Petersburg.
But after that came the 30s - difficult and tragic. On the territory of the city and its environs, in the period from 1931 to 1937, Svirlag was located - the most terrible GULAK in the USSR. Here, the attitude towards criminals and those serving sentences was terrible - feeding on rotten fish, working and living without clothes. A. Losev, a famous philosopher, also sat here.
And during the Great Patriotic War and during the blockade, the city held back the Nazi troops and held the defense, standing up to defend the Road of Life. Now Lodeynoye Pole has become a real cradle of the Russian fleet.
What can be seen in the city
One of the city's attractions is the Church of Paul and Peter, a monument to Peter the Great (it was built on the very spot where the house where the king lived). Also, a monument to the 300th anniversary of the city was erected in the city. In the composition of the city, elements of a nautical theme were used.
