Tyumen is unofficially called the gateway to Siberia. The city is considered not only the oil capital, but also the cultural center of different nations. And today Tyumen can also be considered a thermal resort.
Embankment and Tsarskaya pier
More than 4 centuries ago, the discoverers of Tyumen sailed along the Tura River. Today the Tyumen embankment is enclosed in granite. It consists of four levels that form flood runoffs. This is the only embankment in the country that consists of so many levels. There is a private museum "Tsarskaya pier", which serves as a monument to the shipping company of Siberia. In this museum, you can not only see the exhibits, but also touch them. One exposition is dedicated to the royal family of the Romanovs. More than 100 years ago, the Romanovs were brought here for subsequent exile to Tobolsk. The excursion follows their path from the floating pier to the steamship office.
Mammoth
The Tyumen Museum of Local Lore contains unique exhibits. The oldest and tallest skeleton of a mammoth is located here. This is the best-preserved skeleton of all the world's exhibits. He was found in 1885 by the founder of the museum. The assembled skeleton of an ancient mammoth belongs almost entirely to one individual, which is a rare case. A bank with 1988 coins is hidden in the mammoth's skull. This is a humorous message from the restorers of the time.
House with the ghosts
The building of a real school, built in the 19th century, is remarkable not only for its beauty. From July 1942 to April 1945, a sarcophagus with the body of the leader of the world revolution was hidden in this building. The sarcophagus with Lenin's body was brought here by order of Stalin and was located on the second floor. The first floor was occupied by NKVD officers and embalming specialists. Many times there are those who saw the ghost of the leader, who wanders along the corridors of this building.
Prison
A reconstructed settlement of peasants is located 70 kilometers from Tyumen. The jail surrounds a palisade and watchtowers with loopholes. In the settlement, ancient peasant huts with household items, a smithy, old carousels, and craftsmen's houses have been recreated. Here you can see the armor of warriors, try on a festive sundress, weave a basket from a vine or mold a pot of clay. Ready-made souvenirs of artisans of that time can be purchased at a shop nearby.
Mineral springs
They were looking for oil in Tyumen, but they found mineral water. Now you can buy mineral water in any store in Tyumen or drink it in city pump rooms. Near Tyumen there are hot mineral springs where you can swim. They are especially popular in the cold season.
Jurassic Sea
The bottom of the ancient sea is located in the Kyshtyrly quarry. Here to this day they find the teeth of ancient reptiles, fossils with the tunnels of sea worms, fossilized crab shells. When the quarry is free of water, you can go down into it and collect ancient souvenirs. Due to the large number of shark tusks that come across, the quarry was nicknamed the shark beach. Tourist excursions are organized there.
