Square with a sundial
Each city has a certain symbol that is associated with it. This is the Kremlin for Moscow, the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg or the Kiev Andreevsky descent. The Lithuanian city of Siauliai also has its own brand name. The spacious square in the center of the city is called the Sun Clock Square and is a favorite resting place for guests of the city and its indigenous people. Among the modest one-story Lithuanian houses, the square looks majestic and luxurious. It is decorated with numerous flower beds with a variety of flower arrangements and graceful metal benches, on which there are no empty seats during all kinds of city events. But its main element is a large sundial, which does not show the usual time, but the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 6, which symbolize the year of the first mention of the city of Siauliai in the chronicles.
Town hall in Vilnius
When in Vilnius, be sure to visit the Town Hall Square. It is here that the magnificent building of the City Hall is located, built in the classicism style with perfectly straight lines and strict proportions. Today, the Town Hall hosts receptions of foreign delegations, concerts and public holidays. The main façade of this low two-story building is supported by a small portico with six Doric columns. On the triangular pediment, elegantly molded elements stand out.
Gedeminas Tower
Historical monument Gedeminas Tower is located on the western slope of the Castle Hill. The tower is 142 m above sea level and consists of three floors. The material for the construction of the tower was red brick and rough rubble stone. There is an observation deck on the territory of the tower complex, from where a beautiful view of the Vili valley and the Old Town opens. The Gediminas Tower not only embodies the Gothic style, but it is the symbol of the entire Lithuanian state.
Hill of Crosses
This place near the city of Siauliai along the Riga-Kaliningrad highway is the main attraction of Lithuania. The mountain is a hill with a huge number (up to one hundred thousand) of different crosses. According to legend, a person who puts a cross here will be lucky. Today the Hill of Crosses has united crosses of various denominations and sizes. There is a crucifixion of Pope John Paul II himself, which he installed on September 7, 1993.
