Italy is a popular destination for tourists. However, before going on a trip, it is worth knowing some of the peculiarities of the life of Italians, so as not to be surprised and not to get into trouble during the long-awaited vacation.
Coffee is underfilled in Italy
You walked into a restaurant and ordered coffee, and the waiter brought you a tiny cup, only half full of the drink. Do not start to sort things out with the administrator - this is the most popular coffee in Italy, the strongest espresso. It should be drunk in one gulp, and if one portion of the drink did not help you wake up, then ask to repeat. Italians are capable of drinking coffee at any time of the day. Bar patrons love to have a few cups of espresso with friends in the evening after work. But at breakfast, they prefer cappuccino. Also remember that the coffee you drink at the bar will cost you a little less than the drink that you bring to the table.
Quiet hour
From 12.30 to 15.30 you will not go shopping or find entertainment. At first glance, it seems that the city has died out, but in fact, Italians just retired for a day's rest - a siesta. You, too, are better off at this time to go somewhere to rest before the heat subsides, especially if you are traveling in the summer. If you are not sleepy, then during a siesta you can try to find a working restaurant and have a snack.
Don't take your purses off your hands
In Italy, you can find street vendors offering everyone bags from famous fashion houses - Prada, Louis Vuitton and others, as well as belts, sun glasses and other accessories. But be careful, the desire to acquire a copy of a branded item for a penny is punishable by law. If the police notice the act of sale, both the seller and you will have to pay the fine.
Don't pull the string
After checking into an Italian hotel and heading to the bathroom, you may find an incomprehensible string. Pulling it out of curiosity, tying things to it or trying to dry laundry on it is not recommended. It is designed so that you can call for help if you feel bad while taking water procedures, or if the door is jammed and you cannot leave. Otherwise, don't be surprised if a worried receptionist rushes into your shower.
Do not exceed the speed limit
There are speed limits on the roads in Italy. And if you did not notice the law enforcement officers on the Autobahn, this does not mean that you managed to escape from the eye of the law. Exceeding the speed limit is registered not by the police, but by inconspicuous gray boxes that are not so easy to notice. Therefore, it is better to pay attention to the signs.
