Many people know Italy well and are more or less versed in the cities of Italy. Anyone can tell you how Rome differs from Venice, or what Milan is, but Florence is often bypassed, although this city deserves special attention. The history of Florence is directly related to the lives of several geniuses, as well as to the history of the culture of modern civilization.
It so happened that it was Florence that became the place where a new era in culture was born - the Renaissance, or as it is also called the Renaissance.
The name of the city is translated as “blooming” and means that the city is incredibly beautiful during the flowering period in spring, and what hopes the founders of the city pinned on the future, and they dreamed of prosperity without wars. The city developed, experienced several wars, conquests, plague and famine.
However, at a time when it seemed that there would be no improvement, geniuses began to appear in the city - poets, writers, painters, sculptors - all those whom today we call geniuses of the Renaissance. In 1434, the Medici family began to rule in Florence, which played an important role in the development of the city. The birth of a new era is associated with the name Cosimo Medici - it was he who gave impetus to the development of an entire Renaissance era. Gradually, Europe began to emerge from the Dark Ages, the dark and ignorant, the era of the Inquisition, the humiliation of man. The emergence of the modern Italian language is associated with the poets and writers of the Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci was born here. Today we can say that he became a symbol of the Renaissance man, since he was so versatile and talented as a man rarely is.
Today Florence is the center of Tuscany, an amazing city of museums, squares, palaces, every creation in Florence seems to speak of that amazing era when geniuses lived and worked.
The last two centuries have not been the best for Florence. In the 19th century, part of the historical zone was demolished, and in the 20th century, part of the buildings were destroyed by bombing during the war. However, the number of monuments and museum collections allow us to call this city an open-air museum.
The most famous landmark of the city is the Uffizi Gallery. Today it is a museum with unique art collections. The gallery also includes several architectural structures, such as the Church of San Piero Squierrajo and the Mint.
