Emergencies on board an aircraft are rare, but they do happen. There is a known case when the entire crew of an airplane lost consciousness, and one of the passengers had to land the plane. Incredibly, he succeeded. After these events, experts created instructions that would help an ordinary person land a plane without the help of pilots.
Instructions
Step 1
Do not panic. Stay cool. Remember, your life is now in your hands. Emotions and fear will kill you.
Step 2
Get in the right place. After entering the cockpit, take the seat on the left. The captain of the ship sits here, all important instruments are located around this place. Do not make sudden movements, move smoothly.
Step 3
Check the horizon line. If the plane is flying smoothly, the autopilot is on. If there is a roll up or down (you can see more land than the sky or vice versa), you need to align the car: the steering wheel away from you - the aircraft will go down, the steering wheel towards you - the aircraft will gain altitude. If it is difficult to assess the situation by the bow of the ship, look at the attitude indicator - artificial horizon. The W-shaped icon in the center represents the wings of an airplane. The sky is blue, the earth is brown. Align the aircraft with the steering wheel so that the wings of the W symbol are positioned exactly on the white line in the center of the instrument.
Step 4
Call for help. To the left of the pilot's seat is a portable radio. Press and hold the button to speak. Release the button to listen. Say "Sos", "Mayday", name yourself and flight number (if you remember). If there is no response on the tuned frequency, switch to VHF frequency 121.5 MHz. This frequency is monitored by the rescue services. The frequency control panel is usually located directly opposite the main pilot's seat.
Step 5
Listen carefully. After contacting the dispatcher, wait for an answer. Then listen very carefully to the instructions of the dispatch service. Don't be afraid to ask again. In stressful situations, not everything becomes clear the first time.
Step 6
Land the plane. In fact, most modern aircraft are so automated that they can land themselves. All that is required from the pilot is to correctly line up the aircraft relative to the center of the runway, the very one where the white paint markings are applied. If automatic landing is not possible, you will have to land the plane manually.
Step 7
Remember to lower the landing gear before you land! And do not forget to keep an eye on the airplane's airspeed indicator for the oncoming air speed.
Step 8
The arrow must be in the green or yellow sector. This is vital! To manually land an aircraft, do the following:
Pull the steering wheel towards you so that the main landing gear struts are the first to touch the ground.
Step 9
Move the steering wheel away from you, now the front landing gear should touch the ground.
Move the traction control lever to the rear position.
Step 10
Apply the brakes. They are located at the top of the steering pedals under your feet.
Steer with the steering pedals if you feel yourself moving off the lane. Cold-blooded execution of all points of this manual will save your life, remember this.
