To the question "Where is the city of Ufa located?" can be answered in different ways, depending on what the questioner wants to know. For a foreigner who is not very familiar with our country, it may be enough to say: "In Russia, in the Urals." For a Russian, of course, more complete information about the location of the city is needed.

A bit of geography

Bashkortostan, or Bashkiria, is located between the Republic of Tatarstan and the Chelyabinsk region; from the south it borders with the Orenburg region, and from the north - with Udmurtia, the Perm region and the Sverdlovsk region.

Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, is located in the very center of the republic. Accordingly, the roads leading from western and central Russia to the Urals and Siberia go through Ufa.

Highways pass through Ufa. The railway station of the city is the largest transport hub. Ufa has an airport of the same name.

If you are guided by the rivers, then Ufa stretches on the banks of two rivers, just where the Ufa river flows into the larger Belaya river, which in turn is a tributary of the Kama.

History and modernity

The history of the city dates back to the time of Ivan the Terrible, when in 1574 a fortress was laid on the right bank of the Belaya River. This date is considered official. However, it is disputed by historians in favor of an earlier time. Excavations have shown that in ancient times there was a large Bashkir city on the site of modern Ufa, stretching for almost ten miles.

Today Ufa is a large city with a population of one million. It can be described as "the best" in several ways.

Among the major Russian cities, Ufa is the most spacious city. There are much more square meters per capita here than in other cities with a population of over one million. The city stretches considerably along the rivers. According to the comfort of living, Ufa is in the top five Russian cities. There are a lot of green areas here.

Tourists have a lot to see in Ufa. One of the main attractions, perhaps, is the monument to Salavat Yulaev, the hero of the Pugachev uprising. The ten-meter rider holds the horse over the steep. The monument is made of metal, but it gives the impression of a very light, almost floating sculpture. Especially when viewed from afar.

The monument to Salavat Yulaev was opened in 1964. Its author is the sculptor S. D. Tavasiev. The monument has become a business card not only for Ufa, but for the entire republic. No wonder he is depicted on the coat of arms of Bashkortostan.

A wonderful view of the Belaya River opens from the foot of the monument. The river is navigable.
