Step 1
The most popular for longevity on the tropical islands was and remains Southeast Asia. The most popular island regions are Thai Phuket and Koh Samui and Indonesian Bali, each of which has its own characteristics.
Step 2
Long-term stay in Thailand is possible if you have a student, work or retirement visa (each type is given for 1 year with the possibility of extension if you have the necessary documents). Phuket can be considered the most developed of the Thai islands. It is connected to the continent by a loose asphalt road and is built up with good condominiums (apartment buildings) for rent and sale. There are many large hypermarkets, excellent roads, a fairly clean Andaman Sea. People who prefer the quiet and provincial atmosphere will like Koh Samui more.

Despite its relative proximity to Phuket (about 400 km), Koh Samui is located in a different ocean, with a quieter seismic environment. The main type of employment for expats and the local population is the tourist service sector. Many people open small family hotels and restaurants here. Bali Island in Indonesia is less popular with Russian-speaking expats. There are almost no condos here, and villas and houses are more often offered as housing for rent and for sale. A business visa is optimal, but there are no problems with obtaining a social visa that is renewed every 6 months.

Cyprus and Malta are among the popular European islands for permanent residence. Both are located in the Mediterranean, giving hot winters, warm autumns and springs, and mild winters without snow. You can move with a business visa or significant investment in the country's economy (especially in the case of Malta). Permanent residence in Cyprus can be obtained after 5 years of a valid residence permit and if you have real estate on the island (quite inexpensive even by European standards). Cypriot citizenship is granted after 7 years of living in the country.

For permanent life, you can also choose an island in the waters of South and Central America. A popular state in which you can get permanent residence and citizenship is the Commonwealth of the Bahamas (residence permit is given when buying real estate, it is extended every year). The tropical climate and proximity to the United States makes the place favorable for the construction of a hotel and restaurant, as beach tourism is widely developed here. Barbados may also be successful for moving (a residence permit is given when investing in the country's economy). On the other hand, these islands are not very developed in terms of infrastructure and are designed mainly for holidaymakers from the USA and Europe.
